Getting Started

Starting therapy for the first time or with a new therapist can bring up a range of feelings on its own - it might feel daunting, scary, or exciting! Psychotherapy requires us to turn our attention inwards and challenge ourselves in some way, and seeking help to do this takes courage and a willingness to invest in oneself. Emma takes the time to get to know clients’ concerns and wishes for treatment, and hopes to provide the safe therapeutic space to support you on your journey.

Referrals & Fees

  • People looking to receive psychological support may seek a referral from their GP or Psychiatrist which will provide them with up to 10 Medicare-subsidized sessions per calendar year under the Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) under the Medicare ‘Better Access’ scheme.

  • The fee for a standard 50-minute appointment is currently $210. Clients seen by a registered Clinical Psychologist under a MHCP are entitled to a Medicare rebate of $137.05 per session, meaning the client’s gap payment is $72.95.

  • A referral is not required if clients prefer to pay fees privately. If you have private health insurance, they may provide rebates depending on your provider and cover. Referrals through the Queensland Police Service are also accepted.

  • Ideally therapy is accessible for those who need it, hence the current fee is significantly lower than the national recommendation of $300. Existing clients who are engaging in long-term psychotherapy beyond Medicare-subsidized sessions, or who are experiencing genuine financial difficulties, may enquire about further concession options.

  • A cancellation fee applies for sessions that are cancelled or missed without agreed notice. This policy will be discussed at the start of treatment.
